The resident internal physicians (MIR) de Catalunya have announced this Thursday that, after reaching a “historic” agreement with the health employers and the Institut Català de la Salut (ICS), call off the strike that started on September 21 and which had already been working for 12 days.
A statement sent to the press by the union Doctors of Catalonia, which has covered the mobilizations of the MIRs, highlights that, among other improvements, the agreement establishes that “the effective working hours of residents may not exceed 48 hours per week, including ordinary working hours and shifts, which will be a maximum of four a month “.
Also guaranteed “a minimum continuous rest period of 12 hourss between the end of a day and the beginning of the next “, as well as it is determined that” the minimum weekly rest will be 36 uninterrupted hours “.
The MIRs too they will charge from now on 5% more, that in 2021 it will rise to 7% and will increase by 8.5% “for each of the years of residence.
In terms of training, the agreement includes the creation of the Monitoring Commission for specialized health training programs in Catalonia, non-care training within the ordinary day and a commitment to finance attendance at a congress during residency.
It also contemplates a ratio of supervisors that does not exceed four MIRs for each associate doctor and the remuneration of external rotations as well as of the guards.
The Metges de Catalunya (MC) union has also explained that the 12th day of the strike has achieved “a 73% following” among the doctors in training.
