The bodyguard of British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has been sidelined after forgetting a loaded handgun on a passenger plane.

Raab and the guard returned from a Brexit-themed visit to Washington on Friday morning. The United Airlines plane they were using was found to have a Glock 19 pistol after landing at Heathrow Airport in London.

The gun was found by an airplane cleaner. The Sun magazine according to the bodyguard forgot the pistol on his bench after getting up to escort the minister out of the plane.

The police officer, who worked as a bodyguard, was immediately relieved of his duties. London police are investigating the matter and say they take it “very seriously”. British police are only allowed to carry a gun on flights with special permission.

In February this year, also the British ex-prime minister David Cameronin the bodyguard forgot his gun in the plane’s toilet on a transatlantic flight. The passenger who found the gun delivered it to the cabin crew of the flight.

Cameron’s guard was also allowed to resign.
