Samuel Paty was assassinated on Friday in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine by a young man of Chechen origin, after showing students caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad in a course on freedom of expression. 18-year-old Chechen Abdoullakh A. was shot dead by police, firing nine bullets at him. Known with a common law background, but not for radicalization, Abdoullakh A. used a 35-centimeter knife to decapitate his victim near the college where he was a teacher. In his phone were found a message addressed to Emmanuel Macron, the “leader of the unbelievers” and the photo of the beheaded victim, posted on Twitter.
