Jordan Teze is relieved that he could still be of value to PSV in the Europa League match against Omonia Nicosia (1-2 win). The defender was initially not admitted to Cyprus, but traveled to the island in a private plane on Thursday and played ninety minutes.

Zahavi did stay behind in Eindhoven

“This feels good, because it has been a long day”, said Teze after the game in conversation with FOX Sports. “Being flown in with a private jet and then being in the base is not something that often happens. But I haven’t thought about it too much. It gives an extra boost that we did with the team to win here.”

21-year-old Teze was initially refused by Cyprus because he was recently infected with the corona virus. However, the defender of the Dutch Juniors already tested negative last week and participated in the away game against Vitesse on Sunday (2-1 loss), which meant he could also play against Omonia Nicosia on paper.

“They didn’t want me in the country, but I complied with the rules. Wednesday at 09:00 I heard that I could enter Cyprus, but at 09:45 I was taken off the plane. They said they need a KNVB stamp. “, Teze looked back on his eventful days.

Incidentally, Teze was not the only PSV player who was not allowed to enter Cyprus, because striker Eran Zahavi was also refused. The two teammates trained in Eindhoven on Wednesday in anticipation of further developments, but in the end only Teze was allowed to go to Cyprus.

“I had taken into account that I would still be allowed to come”, says the young Dutchman. “That same evening I received the message that I was allowed to enter the country and the next morning I heard that I would be in the base. I am very happy that I still played.”

PSV plagued by the corona virus won the away match against Omonia Nicosia 1-2 by two goals from Donyell Malen. The Eindhoven team, who lost the first group match 1-2 to Granada last week, are second in group E.
