Suspect in Yakima triple homicide dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound; motive unknown.
A triple homicide occurred at a Circle K store in Yakima, Washington. Two men and a woman were shot by 21-year-old Jarid Haddock, a Yakima County resident. Police believe the shooting was random and there was no apparent conflict between the parties. After the shooting, Haddock drove away from the scene and was identified by police. He was found dead near a Pizza Hut with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Yakima Police Chief Matt Murray said they have security video from the store and eyewitnesses have provided information. He also said the suspect had a large amount of ammunition and weapons on him when officers found him. Murray said they do not yet know of a motive, if there was one.
Police were called to the scene around 3:30 a.m. and the suspect was found around 12 hours later. An autopsy will be done to confirm the identity of the man, but police firmly believe it was Haddock. The suspect had borrowed a woman’s phone near the Target in Yakima and called his mother, telling her “several incriminating statements, like ‘I killed those people.’”
The Yakima shooting has left many questions unanswered. Police are still investigating the motive and may never know due to Haddock’s death. The investigation is ongoing and more details may be revealed in the future. It is a tragedy that three innocent people were killed in a seemingly random act of violence.
