Arsenal has signed Emile Smith-Rowe a new contract GunnersOfficial channels announced the news. After signing his new contract, the midfielder of twenty-years was still at Emirates Stadium until mid-2023. However, he is now linked with Arsenal until mid-2026. Smith-Rowe will be wearing a number 10 shirt next season, as well as a new shirt.
Arsenal has had the number 10 jersey vacant since Mesut Ozil’s departure. He made the switch to Fenerbahce last January. Smith-Rowe, who will wear the famed number on his back, will be wearing it from next season. This number was previously worn by Robin van Persie as well as Dennis Bergkamp. Smith-Rowe will not be allowed to leave the team due to his contract extension and the granting him his new jersey number. Aston Villa was in high demand earlier this summer and had two offers rejected.
“We saw last season that Emile is a very intelligent player, with excellent qualities. Arsenal manager Mikel arteta said that Emile’s sharp moves and extraordinary insight made him a key player. “His attitude and eagerness to learn are very impressive. We are very proud of Emile’s training by the staff at our youth academy. We look forward to developing him further so that he can become even more important in the strong, young team being built here.”
Smith-Rowe is an Arsenal youth academy player who made his debut in the Arsenal first team in 2018, at the age 18 of his playing days. The England youth international is now a fixture in Arsenal’s first selection, having spent rental periods at RB Leipzig (Huddersfield Town) and Huddersfield Town (Huddersfield Town). Smith-Rowe was part of 33 Arsenal appearances last year. He scored 4 goals and assisted 8 times.
