The Slovak Justice has sentenced the leader of the Our Slovakia People’s Party (LSNS), Marian Kotleba, with representation in Parliament, to four years and four months in prison for a crime of apology and use of Nazi symbology.
Although the decision is not final, since Kotleba has appealed to the Supreme Court, the failure is already historical It is the first time that a court in the country has sentenced a member of Parliament to prison.
The LSNS was the fourth most voted force during the past parliamentary elections February, with 8 percent of the vote, thus giving him 17 representatives on the National Council.
The Specialized Criminal Court in Pezinok, near Bratislava, has ruled against Kotleba, who has been punished after in 2017 and on the occasion of the anniversary of the declaration of the Slovak puppet state of the Nazi Germany In 1939, he distributed checks to three families for 1,488 euros.

The judge in the case explained that Kotleba used his position as president of the Banská Bystrica region in the north of the country at that time to “publicize this ideology” through a “theatrical” check delivery that it had nothing to do with helping needy families, reports the Slovak daily ‘Pravda’.
Kotleba, 43, is known for his attacks against the gypsy minority of the country and has been taken into police custody on several occasions, accused of causing race riots and endangering democracy.
While waiting for the Supreme Court to rule, already last year, the High Court rejected a request from the Slovak Attorney General, Jaromir Ciznar, to outlaw the LSNS, since its activities are not only contrary to the Constitution, but also pretend destroy the democratic system.
