Dortmund must pull the slug home from Italy after a deplorable defeat for Lazio. Erling Braut Haaland and the gang were not gracious in their judgment of their own efforts.
– It’s inexplicable. Of course, this is not how we can behave, especially not in the first Champions League match. It was simply bad. We actually lacked everything today, says Dortmund captain Marco Reus, according to Bild.
He played 78 minutes of the match against Lazio and was replaced just after Lazio had taken the lead 3-1. It was also the end result.
– It was simply a bad start. They took the initiative. We could not push hard. It was a solid tactic by their coach. They played us out tactically, says Erling Braut Haaland to Viasat.
Borussia Dortmund had a nightmare start to the match. Ciro Immobile said thank you for the last already after six minutes. The Italian never got to vote as Robert Lewandowski’s replacement in Dortmund, but on Tuesday it swung by Lazio’s spearhead.
Halfway into the first half, it was 2-0 to the Italians – after an own goal by BVB goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.
– It was a miserable performance in the first place. This is how you can not be familiar with appearing, says Dortmund legend Sebastian Kehl (362 games) – who now works in the club’s recruitment department – to Bild.
Erling Braut Haaland knocked home the 1 – 0 goal just outside the reach of the goalkeeper. The hope for points, however, was short-lived.
Substitute Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro scored the last goal of the evening, 3-1 to Lazio, five minutes later.
– We were not present. Defense, running – everything was missing. We will make it, but we must do everything better. I am very disappointed, says Dortmund coach Lucien Favre after the defeat.
PS! Haaland & Co will have the opportunity to fight back against arch-rival Schalke 04, Saturday 18.30.
