Manchester United profile Nemanja Matić (32) has taken seriously the threat of dropping the national team and is not in Serbia’s squad for the European Championship playoffs against Norway on 8 October.

It comes after Serbia’s national team manager Ljubiša Tumbaković on Thursday


Matić, who made his debut for Serbia in 2008, with 48 international caps. He chooses to let younger forces escape.

In the squad, however, are well-known names such as Aleksandar Kolarov (Inter), Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio) and Luka Jović (Real Madrid). Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrović has an impressive 35 goals in 57 international appearances.

Luka Milivojevic from Crystal Palace is back in the squad after being out last, while two men have been brought in for the first time: Usable Mihailo Ristic and goalkeeper Djordje Nikolic.

Montpellier player Ristic can play from the start at Ullevaal, if the national team manager chooses to play with captain Kolarov as midfielder.

Danijel Aleksic, who lives in Turkish Başakşehir, Turkey, on a daily basis, is back after a long absence.

Not a single player in this squad plays for Serbian clubs. Very many play for well-known European clubs, especially in Serie A.
