The Eifel Grand Prix ended for Lando Norris with a retirement due to problems with the power plant. McLaren chief Andreas Seidl explained what happened …
Andreas Seidl: “Lando had the same problem as Carlos before the start of the Belgian Grand Prix. An ignition malfunction caused the engine to enter safe mode. We tried to get it back into working mode – for this Lando changed the settings on the steering wheel, but it did not help. When an ignition problem occurs, unburned fuel enters the exhaust system and ignites.
All this is very sad, because at that time Lando occupied an excellent position in the race. He was driving fourth, catching up with Daniel Riccardo, and they had different strategies. It’s curious how events would have developed at the end of the race, when the tires had a different resource. Lando’s retirement upset me – he had a good racing pace, he could fight with our main rivals. “
