Security in French schools and supervision of online propaganda by radical Islamic groups is being tightened, French President Emmanuel Macron decided on Sunday evening after an inserted meeting of the cabinet meeting. The measures come after a teacher was beheaded in a Parisian suburb on Friday.

“Concrete Actions” Against Radical Islamist Propaganda Online

According to Macron, the security of the schools has the highest priority. Safety in and around the schools should be improved before November 2, when the autumn holidays are over in France. It is not yet known exactly what the improved security will look like.

An eighteen-year-old man of Chechen descent killed history teacher Paty on Friday after the teacher showed caricatures of the prophet Mohammed during a lesson on freedom of expression.

French authorities arrested an eleventh suspect for the incident on Sunday. It is not yet known what this person has to do with the case. Family members of the perpetrator, as well as parents of students of Paty, were already arrested.

Macron also spoke with six ministers and anti-terrorism prosecutor Jean-François Ricard on Sunday evening about swift “concrete action” against radical Islamist propaganda online.

The Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti presented after the Council of Ministers an action plan “that will give rise to concrete actions against the structures, unification or people close to radicalized circles and which spread calls to hatred that can encourage attacks, ”said Macron.

The plan must be implemented in the course of next week.
