Despite the difficult game, PSV coach Roger Schmidt was satisfied with the 2-0 win over Fortuna Sittard on Sunday. The German coach emphasized the tough schedule of his team.
‘Teze and Boscagli were of top level’
“This was our fourth game in ten days. Three times we played out and twice we had to fly,” Schmidt said. FOX Sports.
PSV qualified for the group stage of the Europa League in the past week and a half by winning the matches with Mura (1-5) and Rosenborg (0-2). In between, Schmidt’s team drew 1-1 at Heracles.
“The game today was not top level, while it was very good on Thursday against Rosenborg”, said Schmidt. “We can’t play this well twice in a row now, that’s understandable.”
“This team has not played any games for months in the corona crisis and now there are suddenly ‘English weeks’. Then it is difficult to get back into that rhythm. You can see that we sometimes lack the freshness to make the right choices.”
PSV leads the Eredivisie with ten points from four matches, together with Feyenoord and sc Heerenveen. “For now I am satisfied. I want us to reach a high level twice a week later on,” said Schmidt.

Although Fortuna managed to create some great opportunities in Eindhoven, Schmidt paid a compliment to his central duo. “I think Jordan Teze and Olivier Boscagli have done very well today. They have played all the matches in the last ten days and were top notch.”
Due to injuries to Philipp Max, Mohammed Ihattaren, Érick Gutiérrez, Armando Obispo and Maxi Romero, PSV only had four field players on the bench on Sunday. Schmidt previously reported that he hopes to strengthen his selection before Tuesday’s transfer deadline. “Four substitutions is not enough if you want to play two top-level matches a week.”
