Roger Schmidt is full of praise for PSV, which convincingly qualified for the group stage of the Europa League on Thursday. The trainer saw that his players showed their best side against Rosenborg BK (0-2) and in particular Eran Zahavi.
‘Hendrix substitution was a decisive moment’
The recently recruited Zahavi immediately showed himself on his debut with a goal and an assist. The 33-year-old striker was given a few more options.
“We have defended well, switched and created opportunities. And scored. Eran already scored many goals in the past and that is why we also brought him to PSV”, Schmidt said afterwards to the Eindhovens Dagblad.
“He is also a real team player, with enormous ambition. He transfers that to the team. Eran wants to win and score goals, but I also want to compliment Donyell Malen. He has made himself very useful for the team and worked.”

Schmidt, who saw Zahavi score in the first half and Cody Gakpo after the break, also had words of praise for Jorrit Hendrix. The midfielder has little future at PSV, but had to fill in early due to an injury to Ryan Thomas.
“A decisive moment. Jorrit has played an excellent game and was clearly very motivated. He has brought his class and experience”, said the German coach.
“Last week I left him out of the team because it was not clear whether he will stay. If you react like that, it is great class.”
PSV will go into the tube on Friday for the draw for the group stage of the Europa League, which starts at 1 p.m. in Geneva. Due to results on other fields, the Eindhoven team is in pot 1, which means that clubs like Arsenal, AS Roma, Napoli, Benfica and Bayer Leverkusen are avoided.
