Roda JC will return to natural grass next season after seven years

After this season, Roda JC is removing the synthetic turf pitch from the Parkstad Limburg Stadium. The Limburgers then return to natural grass after seven years.

Roda JC last played on natural grass in the 2013/2014 season. The club relegated after that year from the Eredivisie and then decided to switch to synthetic turf due to austerity measures.

The intention is that Roda JC will train again at Sportpark Kaalheide from next season, because otherwise the field in the stadium will be overloaded. The synthetic turf pitches and facilities at Kaalheide are not in order yet.

Roda JC and the municipality of Kerkrade have signed a new ten-year lease for the use of Kaalheide, whereby the sports park will undergo a facelift in the coming years, including new synthetic turf pitches.

In the Kitchen Champion Division, Roda JC is in a disappointing twelfth place after thirteen games. The team of the new trainer Jurgen Streppel has the objective of participating for the top places and promotion to the Eredivisie.

More and more clubs are exchanging artificial grass for natural grass. In the Eredivisie, there are only three teams left with Sparta Rotterdam, Heracles Almelo and FC Emmen that play on synthetic turf. In the Kitchen Champion Division, that number is a bit higher.
