Robert Kubica, who made his debut in the German DTM touring car series this year, took to the podium for the first time today.
The Polish driver drives the BMW M4 DTM of the ART team, and until today his season has been unsuccessful – Robert had only one point on his account, and in the first race on the Belgian track in Zolder, held yesterday, he retired due to problems with the car. But today I finished third.
“It was unexpected, because we do not have enough speed to fight for the podium, but today we had a chance, and we were able to use it, – said Kubica after the finish. – I am very happy for our team. The third place is not yet a victory, but we agree to the podium as well, because I haven’t climbed it for a long time. All this is very pleasant and was a reward after a difficult start to the season. “
The victory, as on Saturday, went to Rene Rast, who is leading in the individual standings of the series, the second place was taken by Nico Müller. Since they are driving Audi cars, Kubica is also the best driver to drive a BMW.
“Accidents, safety cars, a fight in which someone suffered losses – the Zolder race was a spectacle with an unexpected ending. Private team’s Robert Kubica achieved his first DTM success with a podium finish. It was cool!” – commented at BMW Motorsport.
In 2020, Kubica is combining DTM performance with the role of reserve driver for the Alfa Romeo team in Formula 1.
