Arjen Robben has returned to the training field at FC Groningen. The 36-year-old attacker will partially participate in the group training of the Northerners in the coming period.
“He takes part in the group training again and also follows his own program”, trainer Danny Buijs said on Friday website of FC Groningen.
At the beginning of November it was announced that Robben will not take action for his club this month due to a muscle injury. “I had hoped to have had a share in more games, but after a few small aches and pains in a row the reality is that it is not so,” he said.
The 96-time Orange-international has only played two league matches since his surprising return to FC Groningen. In the competition opener against PSV, he was injured before the break and in mid-October he was a substitute against FC Utrecht. In total he came into action for 44 minutes.
It is still unknown when Robben will also be able to play again in a competition. Logically, he is not yet available during Sunday’s home game against Willem II. Buijs also has a fully fit selection for that game.
FC Groningen occupies eighth place in the Eredivisie. Buijs’s team won a league match for the last time against VVV-Venlo (2-1) at the end of October. Then they lost at Feyenoord (2-0) and a draw against Vitesse (1-1).
