Arjen Robben will also miss FC Groningen’s home game against VVV-Venlo on Saturday. The 36-year-old attacker has physical complaints and has not trained with the group in recent days.
‘He does everything for it’
“Arjen did go to the training field on Monday”, FC Groningen coach Danny Buijs said on Friday RTV North. “At the end of the training that was not quite right and he got some problems. For the rest he did not train on the field this week, but completed an individual program.”
Buijs does not say exactly what is bothering Robben and the recovery time is not yet reported. “I expect more clarity after the weekend.”
Robben has only played two Eredivisie matches since his surprising return to FC Groningen. In the competition opener against PSV, he was injured before the break and two weeks ago he was a substitute against FC Utrecht. In total he came into action for 44 minutes.
Buijs realizes that Robben wanted to mean more to his team in the first months of the season. “If there is one boy who does everything, but everything for it, it is Arjen. If things go against the grain a few times, it is incredibly annoying.”
The match between FC Groningen and VVV starts on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium and is led by referee Allard Lindhout.
For the Venlo team, it will be the first Eredivisie match after the historic 0-13 defeat against Ajax last week. On Tuesday, VVV already won 4-2 against FC Den Bosch in the KNVB cup.
