The Quebec Majors Hockey League (QMJHL) has officially confirmed the format of its next playoffs, and, as they hoped, the maritime team will have more than a month to participate in the regular season.
Let us now try to explain the operation as simple as possible to you.
In Quebec, the top two teams from the two divisions will receive passes and therefore will not participate in the 16th round. In the first round, the third place will face the sixth place, and the fourth and fifth place teams will face each other in three of the five series.
The two winning teams in the first round of the game will face the first two teams in the division at the highest of the seven innings. The four teams that are still alive at the end of the 16th round of this round will face each other with swords. The following logic: The highest-ranked team in the Western Division will face the lowest-ranked team in the Eastern Division, and vice versa.
The two winners will secure their place in the semifinals. We will come back to this point.
In Atlantic provinces, the format will be different. The sixth, fifth and fourth teams will face each other in a knockout match. The sixth and fifth places will first participate in the “Sudden Death” matchup, and the winner will then face the fourth place in another one-on-one match. The winner of the second duel will enter the next round and face the first team in the department, while the teams that finish second and third will do the same in three-fifths of the match .
Then, the two winners will compete for a seat in the semi-final round robin, which will put the three teams that survived the subsequent rounds against each other.
At the end of this round of tournaments, the first two positions will face off in the Presidents Cup Finals with a seven-game winning streak.
Are you still here?
Before giving you a breath, let you know that the Quebec series will still be played in a protected environment. How to proceed remains to be determined.
