The Quebec Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) felt extremely inconvenient during the COVID-19 pandemic and announced on Friday that it will change the format of its next round of playoffs.
The clubs in the province of Labelle will start the elimination round on April 23. All 12 teams will participate in the first round, which will be held in three-fifths. The formations will be classified according to their score percentage.
Those who win the first round will advance to the quarter-finals, which will be a three-fifths event or a four-seventh event.
QMJHL explained in the press release: “The format of the quarter-finals will depend on the evolution of the pandemic and the duration of the previous round.”
Then, the three winning teams from the quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals, and the champion maritime team will join the semi-finals.
In addition, the Kutu Tour did not announce any changes to the maritime team’s playoff format.
The semi-finals and finals of the QMJHL playoffs will be held in a protected environment. The Presidents Cup will be awarded no later than June 20.
The Quebec Tour also pointed out: “The host city of the first round of the Quebec qualifier and the phase of the sea singles knockout will be announced in the future.”
