PSV qualified for the play-offs of the Europa League in Slovenia on Thursday evening. The team of coach Roger Schmidt was too strong for NS Mura in the third heat with 1-5.

PSV recovers quickly after equalizing Mura

Donyell Malen gave PSV the lead in Murska Sobota after just over fifteen minutes. A few minutes later, however, Mura was tied by a goal from Nino Kouter.

Mauro Júnior gave the visitors the lead again after half an hour, after which Cody Gakpo took care of the 1-3 early in the second half. Moments later, Malen made his second of the match and Gakpo determined the final score in the final phase.

PSV did lose Maximiliano Romero early in the match due to a knee injury. The Argentinian, who made his basic debut, had to be replaced after eleven minutes.

In the play-offs, the Eindhoven team will take on the Norwegian Rosenborg BK, which defeated the Turkish Alanyaspor 1-0. The winner of that match, which is scheduled for next Thursday, will qualify for the group stage of the Europa League.

In Stadium Fazanerija, PSV took the initiative from the start, but it was the first big opportunity for Mura. Shortly after Romero was out, Yvon Mvogo had to come into action from a shot from Tomi Horvat.

In the seventeenth minute it was hit on the other side when Malen grazed a free kick by Philipp Max with the head. PSV could only enjoy the lead for a while, as four minutes later Kouter brought the Slovenes alongside with a slide in the far corner.

Schmidt’s team was not upset by the equalizing goal and took the lead again in the 28th minute. Max was at the basis of the goal with a low cross, which Mauro Júnior worked into the goal in the second instance.

Immediately after the break, Mura was close to 2-2 when a header from Luka Bobicanec hit the post, but in the 54th minute Gakpo extended the lead for PSV. The attacker was sent deep by Bruma at exactly the right moment and placed the ball in the far corner in a controlled manner.

Bruma also had a large share in the 1-4 halfway through the second half. The Portuguese served Malen with a tight pass, after which the striker pushed the ball into the far corner with the left and finally decided the match. In the sequel, Horvat hit the post for Mura and Gakpo took care of the final chord in the ninetieth minute with a ticker.
