Hundreds of people gathered a few meters from one of the towers of the former home of US President Donald Trump, on Fifth Avenue in New York, to denounce the decision of the Kentucky state prosecutor’s office to dismiss the murder charge against the police officers involved in the black woman’s death Breonna Taylor in his apartment last March.

“We will not stop fighting until black women achieve their liberation,” said one of the speakers who took the microphone on an improvised stage where several activists showed their outrage at the decision of the fiscal general de Kentucky, Daniel Cameron.

The justification of the prosecution

According to the prosecutor, after a “thorough investigation”, his team determined that the officers who shot against Taylor when he was at his home in Louisville (Kentucky), they did not violate state law, because they did so in response to the shooting of the young woman’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, who had a gun license.

For the organizers of the protest, members of the anti-racist movement “Black Lives Matter”, the American system “is designed against the existence of the black community” so it is necessary “to continue fighting until it is overthrown.”

The police fenced off the entrances to the Torre Trump, former residence of the president, and doubled its presence in the area.

Protests in various locations

“A murder is a murder” or “Breonna deserves better” were some of the posters carried by those present, which, encouraged by the organizers of the concentration, repeated some of the slogans that became famous during the protests that broke out in May after the murder of the also African American George Floyd, at the hands of a white policeman.

Likewise, hundreds of people gathered in the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn and in many other locations in the country after hearing the news. In Lousiville, where the events were recorded, several marches and protests they occupied the center of the city.

Louisville authorities have declared a curfew starting at 9 p.m. and the public transport network will close to limit the impact of the protests.

The police of that town made arrests during the afternoon, while images on social networks showed the arrival in the city of armed far-right groups, something that in the past has led to violent altercations and several deaths.

Taylor’s deaths, along with George Floyd’s in Minneapolis last May, sparked a nationwide wave of protests demanding racial justice and an end to the excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.
