Khabib Nurmagomedov does not rule out the possibility of returning to the octagon. However, he challenged the fighters of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to impress him and persuade him to retire.
White said of Neumagomedov: “Now, he feels that he has done everything he wants.” He was undefeated in 29 UFC battles.
But this will not stop the 32-year-old Russian from watching UFC 257 up close, which will premiere next Saturday. Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will face off in the finals, while Dan Hooker and Michael Chandler will be ahead of them.
White believes that their excellent performances can persuade Nurmagomedov to return.
The UFC chairman said: “My impression is that if one of them shines and tries to do something special, Habib will want to fight him.”
The latter has been trying to persuade Nurmagomedov to withdraw from his retirement. He announced his retirement after defeating American Justin Gaethje in October last year.
For the Russians, without his father as his trainer, he died of COVID-19 in July last year, it is impossible to continue his career.
“He is now the best in the world. Despite everything that has happened, his best performance is against Gates. He just needs time to clear his mind. If these guys do what I think they will do next week, he May come back to fight with one of them.”
These remarks by White should stop the recent rumors that Numagomedov may demand a fight with Quebecian Georges St-Pierre in order to make him come back.
