Police say the shooter who shot 6 people at a Virginia Walmart was an employee

Chesapeake Police Chief Mark Solesky stated that a man who had killed six people and then committed suicide at a Walmart on Tuesday night was an employee of the store at the time.

MARK SOLESKY While we continue our investigation, we can tell that six victims have died and four are being treated in area hospitals for conditions not known at the time. The suspect is also dead from what we believe to be a self-inflicted shotgun wound. The Chesapeake SWAT team executed an arrest warrant at the suspect’s home and the Virginia State Police assisted us in clearing the house. We believe there is no danger to the general public at this point.

While the investigation is still ongoing, I’ll continue to ask a few questions.

MARK SOLESKY We are unable tell you the identity or the next of kin of the shooter, as he has not been notified.
