Lieutenant Police Christian Bolok was killed in the Philippines in northern Samaria province when a fighting rooster tore open a police femoral artery with a blade attached to its spur, writes AFP news agency.

Bolok was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Cockfights are banned in the Philippines due to the corona pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, they were allowed in licensed locations on Sundays and certain public holidays.

“Misfortune”

Local police chief With Arnel says the accident was due to bad luck that “cannot be explained”.

– I didn’t believe what had happened when I was told. This is the first time in my 25-year police career that I have lost a man in a cockfight, says Chief of Police to the Philippine News Agency PNAto.

Three people were arrested and seven fighting roosters were confiscated.

Rooster fights are popular in the Philippines and they gather large numbers of spectators who bet on the outcome of a fight between two roosters.
