Poland to ask Germany for permission to supply Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
Poland is pushing for Germany to give its approval for the export of Leopard tanks to Ukraine. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has stated that Germany would not block the export of Leopard tanks to Ukraine from third countries. Latvian President Egils Levits has stressed the importance of supplying Ukraine with more heavy weapons, not just to ensure that country’s ability to defend itself, but to ensure the safety of all of democratic Europe. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has said that a careful coordination process with partner nations is underway, but there has been no firm decision made in Berlin about when, or if, to formally approve the transfer of Leopards to Ukraine. Poland has announced that it would form a “smaller coalition” with other, unspecified countries to start supplying Leopard tanks to Ukraine if Germany continues to drag its heels on approval. It is clear that the international community must work together to ensure Ukraine’s safety and protect it from the Russian regime.
