Soul, new Pixar production, directed by Pete Docter, one of the most anticipated films of the season, will open the fifteenth edition of the Rome Film Fest, which will take place from 15 to 25 October 2020 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica.

The artistic director announced it Antonio Monda, in agreement with Laura Delli Colli, president of the Cinema per Roma Foundation, e Francesca Via, general manager. The American director, screenwriter, animator and producer Pete Docter, current Chief Creative Officer of Pixar Animation Studios, the genius who made two marvels and Oscar awards such as Up e Inside Out, sign with Soul a new animated feature film that will lead the audience to discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions: where do our passions come from, the dreams that inspire us and the interests that inspire us? What really makes us who we are?

The protagonist is Joe Gardner, a middle school music teacher who has the opportunity to play in the best jazz club in town. One small misstep will propel him from the streets of New York to a fantastic place where new souls are given personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his own life, Joe allies himself with 22, a still-in-the-making soul who doesn’t understand the allure of the human experience. As Joe tries desperately to show 22 what makes life so special, he will find answers to the most relevant questions of our existence.

Soul is produced by Dana Murray, Academy Award® nominated for short film Lou, and co-directed by playwright Kemp Powers (“One Night in Miami”). The film features some jazz compositions signed by the famous pianist Jon Batiste while the Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (The Social Network) of Nine Inch Nails are entrusted with the original soundtrack.

“I believe the Pixar represents one of the most exciting and revolutionary innovations in cinema in the last thirty years – he said Antonio Monda – I am proud and extremely happy to be able to inaugurate the fifteenth edition of the Rome Film Fest with an extraordinary film that manages to speak to everyone: Soul enhances the international dimension that we have given to the Festival in recent years. Once again, Pixar manages to move, entertain, make people reflect and, above all, reach depth in lightness “.
