PEC Zwolle failed to win the make-up game in the Eredivisie against RKC Waalwijk on Wednesday. Coach John Stegeman’s team relinquished the three points in North Brabant in the final phase: 1-1.
Clint Leemans was close to the opening goal for PEC in the first half, but the attacker hit the post from the edge of the box. Halfway through the second half, Yuta Nakayama also hit the bar on behalf of the visitors.
A minute later it was hit for the people of Zwolle. After a nice attack, the ball eventually reached Eliano Reijnders, who passed RKC goalkeeper Kostas Lamprou with a shot in the left corner.
The visitors seemed on their way to victory, but three minutes before the end Finn Stokkers scored the equalizer. The striker, who had only been in the field for four minutes, headed home from a measured cross by Lennerd Daneels.
The game was initially scheduled at the beginning of this month, but was postponed due to a corona outbreak at RKC. The corona virus was diagnosed with four players and two staff members. Four other players had been in close contact with them and had to be quarantined as a precaution.
Due to the draw, PEC is now 10th with five points from five matches and RKC occupies thirteenth place with four points from five matches.
