The Italian Film Festival, of which Paolo Genovese is the artistic director, began with the screening of the film Padrenostro.
October is upon us and while the tourist season is loosening its grip on San Vito Lo Capo, although the Sicilian town remains particularly attractive for its climate and natural beauty, the Italian Film Festival opens the dance. Last night at the inauguration guests and guests were greeted with a bridisi of welcome against the background of the setting sun. Until Saturday 3 October the “Frate Anselmo Caradonna” Municipal Theater will be the beating heart of the event, open to all free of charge upon reservation on the official website festivaldelcinemaitaliano.com, where there is also a program of meetings and screenings. And speaking of films, it was the work of the screenwriter and director Claudio Noce to kick off the festival.
Our Father, currently being shown in cinemas thanks to Vision Distribution after its presentation at the Venice Film Festival, is inspired by events that really happened to the director’s family. It was 1976 when the assistant superintendent Alfonso Noce it suffers an attack by the Proletarian Armed Nuclei in which a police officer and a terrorist are killed.
The film starts from here and focuses on the 10-year-old son, recounting the months that followed from his point of view. Claudio Noce he was the youngest son and “the film is a letter to my father that I didn’t have the courage to send him for many years” says the director, present at San Vito Lo Capo to accompany his work. “I hope this letter has universal words, that it reaches you and thrills you,” he continues wot, explaining that it took him some time to realize that the best way to tell this trauma was through the experience of his older brother who was 12. The director wanted to bring attention to what he calls “the generation of the invisible”, the children of the leaden years, of those who fought a war the children did not understand why.
Pierfrancesco Favino he produced the film also playing the assistant commissioner Noce, a role that earned him the role Coppa Volpi in Venice.
Set up by the Festival organization with a high quality audio projection and diffusion system, the hall of the Municipal Theater was also baptized by the first member of the jury who arrived in Sicily. Matilde Gioli describes his arrival at as an opening of the heart San Vito Lo Capo and “I will try to enjoy this week of culture and art of this event that cinema needs”. The actress thanks and underlines the warmth and genuineness with which she was received.
