Renault racer Esteban Ocon hopes to score points in Portimao …

Question: Have you chased in Portimao before?
Esteban Ocon: Only on the nearby go-kart track. I fought for the title, won the pole – positive memories. I remember seeing Formula 1 cars being tested on a nearby track, hearing their sound – and dreamed of one day being behind that half of the fence. This year I have such an opportunity – I look forward to a trip to Portugal.

Question: Have you already got acquainted with the track configuration?
Esteban Ocon: Yes, it looks like a roller coaster. I have practiced on a home simulator – the track seems difficult. Very hilly, with elevation changes and sharp turns – it will be interesting to drive a modern Formula 1 car.

There are a lot of medium-speed corners, the track is demanding on the car. And the weather will be completely different than at the Nurburgring. Our task this weekend is to adapt to the track and conditions faster than others.

Question: How do you assess the past races?
Esteban Ocon: It is positive that the car is fast on different types of tracks. We understand that we cannot stop work now, that we must continue – there are still many races before the end of the season, and the struggle in the middle group is very tense.

I liked the way things turned out at the Eifel Grand Prix. It is a pity that I could not finish – we could earn points, but now I am aiming to compete for points in Portugal. I hope the weekend will be successful.
