The authorization, extended by the Chief of Cabinet, was expected to start the return of the tournament, scheduled for November.
Hours after announcing how the tournament’s return plan is, the National Basketball League (LNB) received good news from the national government. Is that Santiago Cafiero, chief of staff, confirmed this Thursday the authorization to get the clubs back to training.
The last matches were played on March 13. Later, the authorities suspended the activity – momentarily, they thought at the time – amid preventive measures against the coronavirus and with the imminent announcement of the quarantine.
At the beginning of June, the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CABB) and the Association of Clubs (AdC) presented a plan: they closed the regular phase and went on to playoffs with the eight best-ranked teams.
There was even a protocol project and negotiations with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. But the strategy failed and the season was suspended permanently.
Now the national government made the permit official for the return to practices for all clubs of the National Basketball League, through Administrative Decision 1741/2020, published this Thursday in the Official Gazette.
For this, it exempted from the restrictions of social, preventive and compulsory isolation and of the social, preventive and compulsory distancing of the clubs and gyms where the players carry out their training sessions.
The Administrative Decision foresees that the practices be resumed under the health protocol published in the document “Recommendations for the return to sports training in the context of the pandemic.
“It is strongly recommended that the performance of individual sports be carried out in open spaces in the open air and at all times avoid contact with other athletes before, during and after the performance of the same,” says that document, released on 20 August.
In the last hours, the Argentine basketball authorities had announced how the next LNB season will be played.
After the evaluation of several candidate cities, Córdoba and Villa Carlos Paz were designated as the localities in which the two “bubbles” where the competition will take place will be built. The Mediterranean province will also host the commitments of the Argentine basketball team.
It only remains for the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Ministry of Health to give their approval so that, in November, the activity of the National League returns in its new modality, under times of the coronavirus.
