Victoria Salcedo, inspiring amputee, redefines beauty by competing in Miss Ecuador pageant.
Victoria Salcedo is a 26-year-old Ecuadorian woman who lost both of her arms and one of her leg after a childhood accident. Despite this, she has become a full-time model, inspiring tens of thousands of people around the world. At the age of 6, she was forced to have her limbs amputated after she accidentally touched an electrical wire with a stick and suffered third-degree burns. She then became accustomed to using her right leg to complete daily tasks. After being fitted for a prosthetic leg, she started to work out and soon became hooked on exercise.
At the age of 19, Salcedo was spotted by a modeling scout and soon became in demand in the industry. She further helped redefine ideas about beauty by competing in the Miss Ecuador pageant in 2021. She now boasts more than 170,000 followers on Instagram, many of whom have praised her for her beauty and enthusiastic approach to life. Salcedo hopes her visibility will prompt people to think differently about other amputees.
In addition to Salcedo, Utah teen Sarah Frei also hit headlines of late. Last year, she went viral after she was seen wakeboarding and skydiving after a double amputation. The 19-year-old was forced to have both of her legs cut off after she was hit head-on by a drunk driver in 2020.
These two incredible women have shown that despite the challenges they have faced, they have not let them stop them from living their lives to the fullest. They have inspired people all around the world to look past physical differences and to embrace the beauty of being different. They have shown that with hard work and determination, anything is possible.
