The all-time Premier League top scorer Alan Shearer was particularly pleased when Newcastle signed Callum Wilson (28) in early September. He was right – Joshua King’s old teammate has become a hit.
Callum Wilson has made headlines since arriving at St James’ Park. Six goals and one goal-scoring in seven Premier League games is strong.
Newcastle have a total of ten league goals so far, and Wilson has been directly involved in seven of them.
Now manager Steve Bruce hopes Wilson can become the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 2003/04 to reach at least 20 goals in a season.
According to the local newspaper, Les Ferdinand is the only one who has scored six goals in fewer games for the Magpies.
“We desperately needed a goal scorer, and Steve Bruce has covered it by bringing in Callum Wilson,” said Alan Shearer just before the start of the series.
Newcastle’s top scorer for a full eight seasons has thus been right – at least until now.
– He has really had a good start. We just have to hope that it continues like this, because we have really trained a goal scorer and someone who would score, says manager Steve Bruce according to chroniclelive.co.uk.
– If you analyze the goals he has made, then three of them are within one meter of the finish line. It is a unique ability to be in the right place at the right time. It is a natural instinct that he is there and scores.
