Since the return to school began, a total of 116 educational centers and 199 classrooms closed throughout Spain, with 27 infected teachers, according to the latest count carried out by the Confederation of Trade Unions of Teaching Workers (STEs), with data as of September 15, 2020. Given the closure of these classrooms, the question that many parents ask it is what they and their isolated children can and cannot do.
If a case is confirmed in the school, it is the autonomous community, in coordination with the educational center, which establishes who are the people who have had
close contact with the positive and they will contact them. These close contacts must remain in quarantine at home. If it is not a close contact (for example, a positive in another classroom), you can continue to attend classes.
In stable coexistence groups, close contacts are all that are part of the group, both the students and the tutor or teacher who is with them. In the case of classes that are not organized as a stable coexistence group, close contact is considered to be any person who has shared space with the confirmed case at a distance of less than 2 meters for more than 15 minutes, unless it can be ensured that it is you have made proper use of the mask. Cohabitants of the confirmed positive case are also always considered close contacts: siblings, parents or any other cohabiting.
From Health they remember that if there has been contact with a person who has been identified as close contact of a confirmed, you should not quarantine. Close contact parents or siblings are not also considered close contacts. They must maintain, of course, the precautionary measures to avoid contagion while they continue with their usual activity (work, school, etc.).
Close contact, but since when?
The period to be considered for the evaluation of close contacts is from 2 days before
onset of symptoms of the case until the moment in which the case is isolated. In the cases asymptomatic patients confirmed by PCR, contacts will be sought from 2 days before the date of diagnosis.
People who are close contact they must remain at home and quarantine for 14 days. During this time they should monitor the appearance of symptoms. If these appear, they should consult their health center or reference telephone number in the autonomous community by phone. What they cannot do is go shopping, to the park or anywhere else during all this time when the entire class is isolated.
All close contacts must quarantine for 14 days, regardless
of the PCR result since the virus has an incubation period of up to 14 days. If it has been in contact with a case recently and the test is negative, you could be incubating the virus and become positive in the days after.
