MARCA talks with Chester Mark Weber, TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E Ambassador and Fernando’s personal friend
Mark Webber has yet to lose contact with Formula One and racing cars. He is a frequent visitor to the Gran Circo paddock and the spokesperson for the TAG Heuer Porsche team, which achieved the best results in the Formula E car in Chester yesterday. I am very happy to chat with MARCA, including Alonso, Sainz, Hamilton, Verstappen…
Question: What do you think of the start of the Formula One season?
Answer: I think Hamilton supported Mercedes in the first two races. Racing is not easy, it is still far away, but Lewis has achieved results, even leading the world championship. But he has a strong competitor in Verstappen. We are all fans of Max style and watching his car is very spectacular. This is exactly what we want from F1 drivers. They are two gladiators. This is what the sport needs. It is a fierce competition… I firmly believe that when there are fireworks between the two, the peak time will come. Currently they get along very well, but respect each other, but in this season… Hamilton is a twelve-round fighter, he will always be under surveillance, against him, you must be prepared to endure the entire battle. In Milton Keynes (Milton Keynes), Red Bull and Honda can fight against them, and they know they will face an uphill battle.
Q: Do you think Red Bull is capable of fighting for the championship?
Answer: They have never been so prepared. They know they have a great chance, they must be very precise, and they are ready to fight at any time, because Lewis will not give you a second chance. They have the right person in the cockpit. In the last test, we saw their ability in pit stops… Although Mercedes is very strong in this regard, it is not the best. But every component of the Red Bull team is mentally prepared to fight. They know how to fight for victory. There are other teams that are not used to it, but Red Bull is. They want to win, even though they have the greatest respect for Lewis and Mercedes.
Q: Max, how will you deal with the pressure to win the championship?
Answer: This is a matter of maturity. But it’s just like in life: facing something for the first time is a challenge. If he can fight Lewis and reach the end of the World Cup, it is a fact. He has more experience in these situations. Max has never had it, but he wants to be in that position and he will know how to deal with it. I am optimistic, but you have to see how it goes. He has confidence in himself. If he sees himself leading the championship, I don’t think he will feel much pressure. It has many personalities. Sometimes we see it explode, but I think it was learned in a sense… although it remains to be seen whether it explodes again.
Q: You have doubts about Alonso… his poor performance in the first game
