Eddie Van Halen died at the age of 65. The Dutch-American guitarist succumbed to the effects of cancer.
Eddie Van Halen died on Tuesday (October 6th) at the age of 65. This was initially reported by “TMZ”, Van Halen’s son Wolfgang (29) later confirmed the news on twitter. “I can’t believe I have to write this, but my father Edward Lodewijk Van Halen lost his long battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever have wished for.” Every moment he spent with him on and off the stage was a gift. “My heart is broken and I will probably never fully recover from this loss.” According to TMZ, Van Halen died in a hospital in Santa Monica.
Edward van Halen was born in the Netherlands in 1955 and moved to the USA with his family in 1962. Together with his brother and drummer Alex (67) he founded the band Van Halen in the 70s, which also included singer David Lee Roth (65) and bassist Michael Anthony (66). Van Halen’s debut album was released in 1978 and immediately became one of the band’s most successful albums. This also includes the sixth album “1984”, the most famous single from the album is “Jump”.
His son Wolfgang Van Halen comes from his marriage to actress Valerie Bertinelli (60), who divorced in 2007. In 2009 he married Janie Liszewski (50). Eddie Van Halen has been voted the best guitarist in the world several times in his career by Guitar Player magazine.
