52% of Spaniards do not believe that they will collect a pension when they retire. A conviction that adds more adherence among young people between 25 and 34 years old: 62% of respondents in the “Study on Spanish Saving Habits”, prepared by the comparator Rastreator. Interestingly, despite all the above only 26% of participants have a pension plan.

The future of pensions appears as one of the biggest headaches, for nine out of ten Spaniards according to various studies. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, at the end of August 2020 estimates that in Spain there are currently 9.77 million pensioners and that the average pension is 1,011.84 euros. In the case of the retirement pension, the average is 1,162.97 euros per month.

In the opinion of Álvaro Bas, Rastreator’s business development manager, despite the fact that “Concern about the current and future pension situation increases every year” having a pension plan to complement the pension is not very rooted. “Especially considering that 31% say they do not have it because they cannot afford it,” he pointed out.

To which Bas has qualified that 23% of people who do not have a pension plan consider hiring in the future. “Only 20% of all Spaniards do not see it necessary to have this type of product,” he pointed out.

If there is a particularly skeptical group, it is young people, according to the Restreator study. Specifically, those who most opt for pension plans are people from between 55 and 65 years, which account for 36% of the hiring. Interestingly, 62% of those surveyed between 25 and 34 years old are sure that they will not have a pension. In the age group between 35 and 44 years, this conviction is shared by 59% of the participants.
