Brazil surpassed this Sunday the 160,000 deaths from covid by adding 190 deaths in the last 24 hours, with which the South American giant is ratified as the second country in the world with the most deaths from the pandemic, only behind the United States, the Government reported.

According to the latest report from the Ministry of Health, the total number of deaths from the virus now adds up to 160,074 fatalities, while infections rose to 5,545,705, with 10,100 cases registered between Saturday and Sunday.

The number of deaths and infections from the coronavirus may be higher, since on weekends the figures tend to fall in the South American giant, due to the lack of officials to carry out the records.

Until this Sunday, the South American country registered a mortality rate of 76 deaths and an incidence of 2,639 infected people per 100,000 inhabitants.

Although the numbers have gradually decreased, Brazil, with a population of 210 million inhabitants is one of the main epicenters of the pandemic.

In addition to being the second nation in the world with the highest number of deaths from covid-19, it is the third in infections, behind the United States and India.

However, since the new coronavirus arrived in the South American country, last February, more than 4.98 million infected patients have already fully recovered, representing 89.8% of the cases.

Another 404,689 patients are still under medical care, according to health authorities.

After overcoming the dehydration picture for which he was admitted to a private hospital since Friday, the Minister of Health, General Eduardo Pazuello, was discharged this Sunday.
