Major League Soccer (MLS) will implement a new measure that will allow teams to make up to two changes in games related to players who may suffer a concussion.

The proposed initiative will allow clubs to replace athletes who have suffered or are most likely to have concussions during the game, regardless of the number of substitutions that have been made.
Therefore, MLS predicts that there will be 3 types of player replacements in the 2021 season. As last year, up to 5 types of normal changes are allowed. Concussion-related events can be carried out immediately after the relevant game or at the end of the subsequent evaluation; finally, other changes will be given to the formation of opponents who are struggling due to the type of injury.
In the latter case, if the club’s opponent uses other alternatives for concussion-related reasons, after five regular alternatives have been used, the club can make another alternative (up to two).
The league said in a statement that if the referee believes that a player has suffered a head injury, they will be able to stop the game. However, they do not have to determine the type of substitution, nor do they have to determine the relevance of related athletes.
