Quebec Félix Auger-Aliassime started the Miami Championship with his Polish partner Hubert Hurkacz with a doubles victory on Thursday.
In the next round, they will face the Frenchmen Jeremy Shady and Fabrice Martin against the fourth-placed Croatian Ivan Dodig and Slovak Philip Polasek.
Auger-Aliassime will play a singles match against the 74th-ranked Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Friday. The two players have faced each other twice in their careers on the ATP Tour and each won. The two conflicts occurred on the indoor hard court in 2020.
The 20-year-old Quebec was ranked 11th in the singles matches in Miami with his 18th place in the world. He can also benefit from the first round of the main draw.
At the bottom of the rankings, Canadians Milos Raonic (No. 19 in the world) and Denis Shapovalov (No. 11 in the world) also won the second round of passes. They are expected to have their first singles match on Saturday.
