Mattia Binotto joined Ferrari in 1995 and has witnessed a change initiated by Jean Todt, Ross Brown, Rory Byrne and Michael Schumacher. Thanks to them, the team won five individual titles and six Constructors’ Cups between 1999 and 2004. The team leader hopes to use this experience in overcoming the current crisis in the team.

Mattia Binotto: “I got a unique chance: I had the opportunity to work in a team in the early 2000s – together with Jean Todt, Ross Brown, Michael Schumacher, and I witnessed all of our victories at that time.

This experience has played an important role in my career, because I learned a lot and learned a lot about the mentality – what it must be in order to win. I learned how to build a team, and now I need to repeat that experience. This experience is a privilege, and at the same time it has played a very important role in my career.

Over these 25 years, I have seen that there are always difficult moments. And it seems to me that in times like these, it is important to remain patient and purposeful, try to do your job well and progress. In Formula 1, one cannot be content with what has been achieved – one must constantly move forward, and in my opinion, there is no single simple solution. Therefore, it is important to gradually move forward and set ambitious goals.

We don’t need just one victory – we want to create a solid foundation for a new development cycle. We know this will take time. It’s a long way, and now we have problems, but if you remember the history of Ferrari, there have always been difficult periods, and we have always coped with them, so we strive for this.

The company’s management believes in me and supports me – it’s great. Moreover, I think that the team supports me, and this is also important. It is important when the whole team shares values, vision and goals.

How long will it take for us to win back? Now we are in a difficult situation because of the regulations. The refinement of many elements is frozen, we are limited in what we can test in a wind tunnel or on a simulator, so this season we are having a hard time. I hope that next year we will be able to achieve better results than now. But the most important chance for us is the 2022 season. ”
