Diego Maradona was admitted to a hospital in La Plata, near the capital Buenos Aires, according to various Argentine media on Monday. It is unclear what exactly is wrong with ‘Fluffy’, who celebrated his sixtieth birthday on Friday.
According to the Argentine press, the situation is not life-threatening and has nothing to do with the corona virus. Maradona would mainly be psychologically screened, because he has not been himself lately.
The latter turned out on Friday, when the year-old Maradona made a somewhat confused impression and could barely move on his own when he was put in the limelight at a match of Club de Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata – the club of which he is trainer.
Maradona’s personal doctor is expected to come in the night from Monday to Tuesday (Dutch time) with a statement about the health status of the former World Footballer of the Year.
Maradona has been trainer of Gimnasia since September last year. Previously, he was the national coach of Argentina and briefly coached (smaller) clubs in the United Arab Emirates, Belarus and Mexico.
