(Manchester United – West Bromwich 1-0) Bruno Fernandes (26) made a penalty, missed a penalty – and decided on a penalty.
– I’m not happy. I missed the second penalty, but I missed the first and I should have done better. We should have done much better, says Bruno Fernandes to DAZN.
The victory was far from over.
Anthony Martial could have had a hat trick alone in the first half, but Sam Johnstone in the West Bromwich cage kept up with that save better than the other.
Bruno Fernandes was a real virtuoso in the midfield for the home team throughout the match and strewn around with gorgeous passes. He is now the player in the Premier League who has created the most chances for his teammates (26).
Manchester United stood with one poor point in four home games, better than just Burnley, and were under pressure to deliver at Old Trafford as well.
Early in the second half, however, it looked as if the terrible series would continue. Karlan Grant played nice to Conor Gallagher, and Fernandes was headless in the tackle.
The Portuguese where on ball, but took enough man for referee David Coote to point to the penalty mark.
However, the video judges wanted it differently, Coote had to look at the situation over and over again, and finally found that there was no punishment anyway.
– There is punishment in my eyes, and here I think we were a little lucky, says Ole Gunnar Solskjær to BT Sport.
– It’s a shameful decision. The judge did the right thing the first time. It is a clear punishment. How does he manage to reverse his decision that way? asks former stopper giant Rio Ferdinand in BT Sports studio.
At that, Conor Townsend was noted down for a hat trick!
