PSV won its second group match in the Europa League on Thursday. Donyell Malen shot in the 1-2 against Omonia Nicosia in the second minute of injury time.
Hit Omonia from greatest distance ever in EL
Jordi Gómez gave Omonia the lead with a shot from his own half, which was debatable because the ball did not stop when he took the free kick. Donyell Malen signed for the 1-1 before half time and decided the game with twenty seconds left on the clock.
Before the match, it was announced that PSV will file a complaint with UEFA, because Jordan Teze and Eran Zahavi were not allowed to travel by the Cypriot government, while they had tested negative for the corona virus. Teze was allowed to come at the last minute and played the entire game as a right back.
PSV missed six players in Cyprus, including the intended basic players Denzel Dumfries, Cody Gakpo and Pablo Rosario, because they were infected with the corona virus. The team from Eindhoven started the Europa League last week with a 1-2 home loss against Granada and are in second place in group E after two matches.
After a somewhat difficult start, in which goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo had to act several times, PSV got the first big chance of the match after fifteen minutes. Noni Madueke slalomed through the penalty area, but saw his shot blocked by an Omonia defender.
Fifteen minutes later it was hit on the other side. After a foul by Jorrit Hendrix, the Spanish midfielder Gómez quickly took the free kick and shot the ball beautifully from 56 meters.
Referee Donatas Rumsas from Lithuania had escaped notice that the ball was not stopping when Gómez lashed out. Never before has the Europa League been scored from such a great distance.
PSV tied the score ten minutes later. After a smooth attack via Mario Götze and Madueke, Malen was able to slide the ball in.

After the break, PSV was the better team, but Malen, Madueke and Mohamed Ihattaren left nice opportunities unused.
In the final phase, PSV defender Olivier Boscagli prevented an attacker from Omonia from reaching the goal with an ultimate intervention. Subsequently, Malen and Ihattaren still missed good chances of the winning hit.
