The Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro, assured this Thursday that Spain will become “the epicenter of the conspiracy against Venezuela”, after welcoming the opposition leader Leopoldo López, who, he said, “intends to generate violence”, for which the president asked the Spanish government “to take action on the matter.”
During an appearance broadcast on Venezuelan public television, Maduro said that there is a part of the opposition that “is not truly democratic and peaceful,” led by “a psychopath like Leopoldo López”, that instigates “war and violence”.
“I have to denounce it publicly,” continued the president: “I receive information from the first source, that Leopoldo López has arrived in Spain and has called a meeting of his political bosses who are abroad and has told them that he is going to have a speech. calling for elections “, although according to Maduro, López seeks a “war” from Spain.
“The Government of Spain has to take action on the matter, which they did not do when they had this terrorist asylum as a ‘guest’ in the embassy,” he claimed, since “From there the attacks were organized to kill me, the violence that we defeated and the violence in this month of October that they failed to activate. “” Hopefully there is a positive response from the Spanish Government! “
Formal protest from Spain
These statements were made on the same day that the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented a formal protest to the Maduro government before the “insults” directed at the Spanish ambassador, Jesús Silva, after the opposition Leopoldo López fled the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Venezuela.
The departure of Leopoldo López, who had been staying at the residence of the Spanish Embassy since April 30, 2019, caused a harsh reaction from the Venezuelan Foreign Minister, Jorge Arreaza, who accused Spain of being involved in the “Illegal escape of a dangerous criminal”.
Furthermore, once López arrived in Spain and met with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, Maduro labeled the head of the Spanish Executive as “uninformed”, López as a “coup leader” and “terrorist” and the ambassador of “colonialist”, “racist” and “imperialist”.
