Liverpool humiliated Atalanta on Tuesday in the group stage of the Champions League. The English won no less than 0-5 in Bergamo.
Liverpool has no child with Atalanta
Diogo Jota was the big man on the Liverpool side. The attacker, who is by no means always assured of a basic place in the Premier League, made a hat-trick. Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané provided the other goals.
In the other match in group D Ajax was too strong for FC Midtjylland with 1-2. Antony and Dusan Tadic quickly shot the team from Amsterdam to 0-2 and then Anders Dreyer did something in return for the Danes.
Liverpool is almost certain of a place in the knockout phase after three rounds of play. ‘The Reds’ are in the lead with nine points. Behind them Ajax, Atalanta (both four points) and FC Midtjylland (zero points) compete for second place.
Liverpool did not have a child from a mediocre Atalanta. The visitors were already on a comfortable 0-2 lead halfway through. Jota was accurate in the sixteenth minute with a nimble marker and in the 33rd minute with a nice drop kick.
In the second half, Liverpool easily managed to 0-5 in a time frame of ten minutes. Salah (shot in the far corner), Mané (marker) and again Jota (ticker after passing goalkeeper) brought the five-clapper on the scoreboard.
With Hans Hateboer (Atalanta) and Georginio Wijnaldum (Liverpool), two Dutchmen were on the field for ninety minutes. Marten de Roon (Atalanta) and Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool) were missing due to an injury.
