LG CineBeam HU915QE delivers cinematic experience, excellent colors, contrast and sound, but pricey compared to competitors.
The CineBeam HU915QE triple laser projector from LG is a great way to bring the cinematic experience into the home. It produces richer and more vibrant colors than its predecessor, the CineBeam HU85L, and its improved contrast makes it better suited for darker scenes. The projector’s native resolution of 2,716 x 1,528 is shifted twice to achieve a 4K resolution, making it sharper than cheaper projectors with lower native resolutions.
The HU915QE is capable of reaching 94 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut, though newer UST projectors with three distinct RGB lasers can reach a wider 107 percent of the BT.2020 gamut. Despite this, the projector still provides a great viewing experience for films and TV shows, and the built-in 40-watt 2.2 speaker setup is good enough for casual viewing. However, it’s not ideal for gaming due to its noticeable input lag.
The projector is powered by LG’s WebOS platform, which offers all of the smart TV apps you’d expect, and the Magic Remote makes navigating the menus easy. At $5,000, the HU915QE is priced competitively against other high-end projectors like the Formovie Theater, Hisense’s L9G, and Samsung’s Premiere LSP9T. For LG loyalists, it’s an excellent way to enjoy the cinematic experience at home, though it may be worth waiting for the price to come down.
