Trainer Dick Advocaat is very pleased with what Feyenoord showed on Thursday evening in the home game against CSKA Moscow. The team from Rotterdam won the Europa League game in De Kuip 3-1.
“We played very mature. There was a team that almost dictated the game and we scored beautiful goals,” said a satisfied Lawyer in conversation with FOX Sports. “In the first half we already had some opportunities to score, but the players remained patient against a team that plays football easily.”
After the break, Feyenoord managed to score no less than three times in the space of eight minutes in De Kuip via Ridgeciano Haps, Orkun Kökcü and Lutsharel Geertruida. CSKA Moscow did something back ten minutes before the end – Marcos Senesi scored an own goal – but the Russians were unable to achieve a comeback.
“CKSA has had few chances and that is worth a compliment to the team”, said Advocaat, who saw his team play much better than in the last league matches. The team from Rotterdam won the game against FC Emmen (2-3) on Sunday with great difficulty, a week after the disappointing 2-2 draw at RKC Waalwijk.
“Sometimes RKC is more difficult than CSKA. That is not surprising, that sometimes happens”, emphasized Advocaat. “The concentration was now there from the start. We had agreed in advance to keep the zero and take the three points from that point. They all did very well.”
Thanks to the beautiful victory, Feyenoord has a good chance of wintering in the Europa League. The team from Rotterdam is third in group K with four points, the same as number two Wolfsberger AC and two more than CSKA Moscow. Dinamo Zagreb is in the lead with five points.
