Lawyer not angry with Jørgensen: ‘But he should have been smarter’

Feyenoord coach Dick Advocaat is not angry with Nicolai Jørgensen because of his red card on Thursday in the away game against CSKA Moscow in the group stage of the Europa League. The Rotterdammers held their own with ten men: 0-0.

‘Nieuwkoop’s header has to sit’

Jørgensen was shown a yellow card in the 43rd and 47th minute for planting his elbow in the face of an opponent. Feyenoord then made no claim to the victory, after they missed a number of great opportunities before half time.

“After that first card you have to be careful, use your hands less, be smarter. But I don’t blame him”, Lawyer said afterwards on the Feyenoord website.

“0-0 is an excellent result. Especially because of that red card for Jørgensen. CSKA is not the first team you play against with ten men.”

The lawyer was disappointed that Feyenoord failed to score. Jørgensen, who could not put his foot well against a cross, and Bart Nieuwkoop, who headed right to goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev from close range, missed sadly.

“A header like that has to be there. But all in all I have to give the team a big compliment. Now we have to rest because FC Utrecht is already waiting in De Kuip on Sunday.”

Feyenoord rose to second place in group K due to the draw against CSKA. The current number three of the Eredivisie passed Wolfsberger AC, which lost 0-3 to Dinamo Zagreb at home.
