Feyenoord coach Dick Advocaat cannot have a string of basic players in the away match against Fortuna Sittard on Sunday. On the other hand, there is the return of Nicolai Jørgensen, who will play anyway after weeks of absence.
At his press conference on Friday, the lawyer even took a list with the names of the absentees. It was already clear from goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, Ridgeciano Haps, Leroy Fer, Luis Sinisterra, Róbert Bozeník and Christian Conteh that they were not available. Defenders Uros Spajic and Tyrell Malacia are also added.
“We have to make do with the players who are there”, Advocaat tried to remain positive. “At the beginning of this season we brought in a number of players who we knew were susceptible to injury and who the medical staff had warned about. They are all in the list of absentees.”
A boost for Lawyer is that he can again use Jørgensen against Fortuna Sittard. The Danish striker fell out on October 25 in the away game against RKC Waalwijk (2-2) with a groin injury and has since been out of circulation. He’s going to play against Fortuna anyway.
Despite the many absences, Lawyer refuses to complain about Feyenoord’s busy schedule. “As a player, it seems wonderful to me if you can play eight or nine matches in a month and a half. You have to bring it that way and not talk too much of: how tough it is.”
The match between Feyenoord and finalist Fortuna Sittard starts on Sunday at 2.30 p.m. in Limburg. The Rotterdammers occupy the fourth place in the rankings, three points behind leader Ajax.
