Dick Advocaat has mixed feelings about the home game of Feyenoord against FC Groningen, won 2-0. The coach of the team from Rotterdam is disappointed with the first half, but he is also happy with the way his team recovered after the break.
‘We should have made a little more goals’
“The first half was not great. It didn’t look fresh,” said Lawyer on Sunday FOX Sports. “Groningen plays a very annoying system. They play in a 4-2-2-2 formation. You hardly see that in the Dutch league and we had trouble with that in the first half.”
FC Groningen had the best chances before half-time, but Feyenoord escaped, among other things, a deficit when a shot against the bar by Remco Balk. Just before half time, Mark Diemers did find the net on behalf of the home team, but the goal was rejected after intervention by the VAR due to annoying offside by Bryan Linssen.
“Fortunately we recovered in the second half, but I did say in the break that we cannot play another half like that. We have to improve and we can do better”, said Advocaat.
The 73-year-old coach took Mark Diemers to the side in favor of João Carlos Teixeira halfway through. The Portuguese went behind the striker and Jens Toornstra got a different role.

The conversion almost immediately yielded results, as Lutsharel Geertruida opened the score with a header five minutes after the break. In the final phase, Steven Berghuis decided the game from 11 meters, after Groningen defender Damil Dankerlui had been red for causing the penalty kick.
The lawyer was therefore almost satisfied with the second half. “After the break we did well as a team, although we should have scored a little more goals.”
Thanks to the victory over FC Groningen, Feyenoord occupies third place. The gap on leaders Ajax and Vitesse is three points.
